>> well, i did report it to, to the local police department actually. >> and did you report it to the military or higher up? >> i reported it. i told the public health services that the military has there on fort lewis. i told the central investigative division. i told dish ca-- i called the headquarters there and i did everything that i possibly could and everything that i possibly could over a two-year period in order to make shure that my assailant could not do this to anybody else. >> how did you feel about the response that you got from the military? >> well, i felt that they -- they felt -- i can't say what they felt, but my feeling of what happened is that they felt it was easier the sweep the matter under the rug. that they were not comfortable with the fact that it was a gay man involved and that it was one of their staff sergeants that had done this, and you know, it's -- it was just, they just ignored it. >> i want the bring in susan to explain for us how bad is the problem of rape and assault this the military as bad as the 19,000 cases estimated by the pentagon? >> it is.
